Fire Rating Assemblies

A fire-resistance rating refers to the period of time an assembly is able to contain a fire and perform its intended structural function. Fire separation is the method of stopping the spread of fire into adjoining areas of a building for a certain time period by using fire resistant walls, sealing cavities and ducts, etc. Various methods are used to block the spread of fire and smoke through electrical, mechanical and structural penetrations.
